Presentation on Safer Internet Initiative 2015

Safer Internet Day 2015 took place at St. Joseph’s Presentation Secondary School recently. As part of the initiative, Ellen Sheehan, a Transition Year student, was chosen to be the school’s Safer Internet Ambassador.

Over the last number of months, Ellen attended webinars and learned about internet safety and cyber bullying. Four other Transition Year students made up the Safer Internet core team: Eimear Horgan, Molly O’Callaghan, Mary O’Connor and Rachael O’Connor.

These five students presented a Safer Internet Workshop to first year, second year and fifth year students to mark the occasion.

“The workshop consisted of tips on sharing photographs and personal information online, privacy settings and cyber bullying. Each student also received a badge and a wristband with an anti-bullying slogan printed on it to help combat cyber bullying,” said TY co-ordinator, Anette Leen.

”The Transition Year students involved also set up a ‘Facebook wall display’ on a school noticeboard. This display has the appearance of a Facebook page with positive, anti-bullying quotes and safer internet tips in the comments section. Its aim is to raise awareness about fighting cyber bullying and also being safe online,” said Ms. Leen.
