The Gaelscoil Aogáin Girls’ A team won their category in the  senior basketball blitz on Sunday in Farranfore. They played and won all four games. They beat the home side, St. Anne’s in the final.
“The girls played their little hearts out under the terrific guidance of their trainer, Denny Porter,” said one proud Mothers’  Day mom from the scene of the 16points to eight final victory.
There have been many generational waves of basketball victories achieved by Castleisland teams over the years.  However,  this team of girls were in the privileged position of being able to turn their victory into the best Mothers’ Day gift they could have delivered to their most loyal fans.
“It was the proudest way to spend Mothers’ Day for all the Castleisland mom’s who spent the day cheering their girls on,” said the gleeful message from the scene.
Happy and all as it was I couldn’t help thinking of the flip side of the same picture. But that’s sport for you. The names of the winning team: Caoimhe Hogan, Aoife Walsh, Katelyn Brennan, Gemma Burke, Sadhbh Prendiville, Sinead Murphy, Abbie Brosnan, and Paris McCarthy.
