In recognition of the valuable work that communities do in the overall well-being of the county and its people, Kerry County Council has developed the Community Support Fund – according to a note from Cllr. Bobby O’Connell.
This Fund is provided from the Local Property Tax, through the decision of the elected council. Contributions paid under the Community Support Fund will only be paid in respect of work to be carried out in 2015. The Fund will support projects in the following categories:
Community Projects: Examples include programmes to support active ageing in a community or a proposal by a group to enhance and improve their town or village e.g. improvement of a prominent derelict building.
Local Economic Development and Promotion: A project to develop business units in a disused building in the community or a project to create a new business in a community.
Local Tourism, Festivals and Events: Support to a local community to assist with improving or developing an existing festival or creating a local tourism project with full community involvement e.g. enhancing an historic area or site.
Recreation and Amenity Projects: The provision of stiles or benches along a walking route or the development of a community park or the planting of hedging and flowers on approach roads to a village.
Application forms are available from: Community Department, Kerry County Council, Rathass, Tralee, Co Kerry.
