There is just the merest little hint of irony lurking between the common sense philosophy and the logo of a newly formed, local cycling group.
The logo shows people cycling in opposite directions while the philosophy of the group lies in getting people together and heading off in the one direction.
There’s a Sinners’ Corner in Tom McCarthy’s Bar on Castleisland ‘s Main Street. I believe Fr. Patsy Lynch had a hand in its creation. It was due, I suppose, to the need he obviously saw for such a facility there.
Sinners Spinners
Now, his creation has given its name to a cycling group ‘Sinners Spinners’ which has a growing number of people turning up to the ‘New Library’ car-park on Saturday mornings at 9-30am.
They head off on an agreed route and at their leisure – as group co-ordinator and Facebook creator, Georgina Fagan explained:
“This is a social/leisure group for cyclists. It’s non competitive and its purpose is just to meet up and train together for up and coming events.
Anyone who wants to put the head down and up the speed is encouraged 
to belt away and return to us later. That way nobody feels under any pressure and we stick with a pace that suits us as a group,” said Georgina.
Tag Along
“All competent cyclists over 18 years of age are welcome. If you’re bored of training alone and wish to tag along and enjoy a spin, learn how to cycle in a group and have the crack just turn up on the Saturday mornings at 9-30am. at the new library car park just off The Latin Quarter.
To many Castleislanders ‘The Library’ still falls into the top-of-the-town thought process. And one or two would be ‘Sinners’ have been left stranded on recent Saturday mornings. To The Spinners, however, ‘The Library’ means the new building on the old railway yard at the bottom-of-the-town – if you know what I mean.
