The death has occurred of Dr Arthur Spring, the medical doctor and architect who designed Castleisland Golf Course in the early 2000s.
The father of Kerry Labour TD, Arthur J. and brother of former Labour leader and Tánaiste Dick Spring, passed away at his home in Tralee on Wednesday at the age of 70.
Since 1989 Dr Spring had spearheaded the development of several impressive golf courses in Kerry and, in addition to the 18-hole development at Castleisland he was also responsible for courses in Castlegregory, Parknasilla, Kenmare, Beaufort and The Kerries in Tralee.
Other courses with which he was closely involved were:  Newcastle West, Kilrush, Nass, Dun Laoghaoire, Cavan and Clones.

Mr Spring was a great support to his brother, Dick, throughout his long and distinguished career in politics, and he was thrilled to see his own sons, Arthur J and Graham, following in their uncle’s footsteps into political life.
Arthur J was elected to the Dáil in the Kerry North-Limerick West constituency and Graham was elected to Kerry County Council last summer.
A former professional golfer, Dr Spring played on the prestigious European Seniors Tour in 1997 and he represented Munster at inter-pro level for many years.
Requiem Mass will take place at 10.00am on Friday in St John’s Church, Tralee.
