Basketball Ireland Honour for Shauna Ahern

Shauna Ahern has just been named as Basket Ireland's U-14 Player-of-the-Year
Shauna Ahern has just been honoured as Basketball Ireland’s U-14 Player-of-the-Year.

St. Mary’s Basketball Club player, Shauna Ahern has just been announced as the ‘All Ireland Club Championship U-14 Girls’ Player of the Year’  She will be presented with the national honour by Basketball Ireland in June.

Many Medals
“Shauna has been a member of St. Mary’s Basketball Club in Castleisland since the age of eight. She has many medals won in her short career both with the club and with her schools, Muire Gan Smal and Castleisland Community College,” said St. Mary’s club spokesperson, Joanne Downey.
“Shauna has also been part of the Kerry U-14 girls team for the last two years. She started adding to her list of titles at a young age where she won many a Christmas Blitz and Farranfore School blitz titles with her primary school.  She has won four co league medals and four cup medals at both U-12 and U-14 level with St Mary’s.
Her first taste of All-Ireland glory came in 2014 where she was a huge part of the Castleisland Community College U-14 girls’ team which won the All Ireland A schools cup in its inaugural year. In the same month she added her first All Ireland Club Championship medal with St. Mary’s U-14 girls when they won the AICC Division 2 All-Ireland,” said Joanne.

MVP Title
In 2015, after again winning the double in Kerry and picking up the MVP title from her club,  she went on to be part of a team to make history in being the first from Kerry to win the All-Ireland Club Championship A Title and, here,  Shauna was outstanding and made a major contribution to her team’s win.
“She will be rewarded with a presentation due to take place in Dublin on June 6th. All in St. Mary’s Basketball Club would like to congratulate Shauna on her brilliant achievement and we wish her every success in her future basketball career. The sky is the limit,” Joanne concluded.
