A gentle reminder that on this Sunday evening, June 21st a Midsummer Concert will be held in the Church of Saints Stephen and John, Castleisland at 8pm. This concert is in aid of the Kerry Hospice Foundation and has been sponsored by local businesses, Walsh Colour Print and The River Island Hotel.

A wonderful evening of music and song is promised featuring the vocal talents of Bellecanto. The group is fronted by two of our own, Brid Mills and Ailish Walsh with musicians: Seán Treacy on piano and classical guitar; Edel Heenan on piano; Emma Shanahan on cello; Kathleen Raymond on flute and Lucy Tanner on violin.

Bellecanto will perform a variety of pieces from their wide repertoire. Castleisland Parish Choir members have been busy preparing new choral pieces also for the concert. With over forty members, the choir is growing in numbers constantly and the members are delighted to have opportunities to perform and share their love of different styles of choral music.

Nicky and Anne McAuliffe have agreed to lead the traditional music section of the programme. They will be joined by a host of local musicians such as: Connie Moynihan and Denis O’Connor along with piper, Thomas O’Sullivan and singer, Gayle O’ Donoghue from Milltown.

“Jack Shanahan will act as Master of Ceremonies and, with the wide variety of musical styles, everyone can be guaranteed to hear something they like! Donations will be gratefully received at the door on the night. This worthy cause deserves your support. Finally heartfelt thanks and appreciation go to Monsignor Dan O’ Riordan who has graciously allowed the church to be used for the concert,” said a spokesperson for the organisers.
