“A very successful and sociable book signing session at Ballymacelligott Post Office,” that was how proprietor, Brendan Mannix described Thursday morning’s very local event there.

“Along with John Lenihan and author, Con Dennehy, the signing was attended by many local neighbours and friends of John Lenihan. Refreshments were provided by Amanda Mannix and Margaret Groves.

At the open-air book signing morning at Ballymacelligott Post Office were: Archbishop Dermot Clifford (emeritus), Tom McCarthy, Gene O’Keffee, Maeve Prendiville and John Lenihan.

“We also had in attendance some top performance athletes from Ballymacelligott who have achieved success on the national and international stage.

Hopefully we may have inspired some future athletes to train hard and they too will achieve the heights that John Lenihan and these other athletes have achieved,” said Mr. Mannix.

The book, Tough as Leather – The Story of Sporting Legend, John Lenihan has been flying off the shelves of bookshops throughout the country since its launch in Tralee last month.

Author and Currow, native, Con Dennehy said, at a signing in Griffin’s Newsagents in Castleisland last week, that they’re looking at another print run at the rate the book is going now. There is demand for further signing sessions in several other parts of the country yet to be fulfilled. As it stands it is one of the most successful of its kind in the county’s rich, legacy of sporting literature.
