Desmonds Stars Led and Backboned Kerry’s Historic Munster Final Win

A Kerry Ladies Senior Football team led and back-boned by Cáit Lynch, captain; Aisling Leonard, corner-back and Lorraine Scanlon, full-forward, dethroned the Munster and reigning All-Ireland champions Cork at Mallow GAA Complex last evening on a score of Kerry 2-13 Cork 2-4.

In doing so they claimed the Dairygold Cup for the second time in three years. The Alan O’Neill coached team had an incredible nine points to spare over their neighbours at the end.

A fiery first-half by the Kerry women ensured they went in with a lead of two points on 10points to 2-2. Corca Dhuibhne player and kerry centre-forward, Louise Ní Mhuirceartaigh finished with a massive 1-5 and the Player of the Match award.

Cork are on the long route now and will play Meath in the All-Ireland qualifiers as Kerry celebrate their historic Munster title and get down to the business of preparing for the rest of the season. Congratulations to the team and management and to our honour laden locals on their remarkable achievement.
