The doors of Castleisland Community Centre will open tonight at 8pm for the annual Indoor Market.
Then bargain hunters and even Christmas shoppers will surge forth, wild-eyed for the isles with hungry shopping bags agape.
“There’s everything from a needle to an anchor – you could find anything here,” was just one of the comments made by seasoned observer as he stood well back from the melee at one of the recent markets.
The market was established in 1974 at Tommy O’Rourke’s Shop on Main Street. It moved house a few times and was held at The Library at the top-of-the-town; at Desmonds GAA Club for one year for some reason and at the Pitch & Putt Club until it settled in the centre. It is a fundraiser for the Kerry Parents and Friends.
It’s a night of great gathering and meeting of friends and neighbours. However, you’d be well advised to get here early as bargain hunting is one very serious side to the business done there.
