The death of Joe Reidy, (77) Tullig, Castleisland has been announced. Joe was a carpenter by trade and he worked with Johnny McSweeney Contractors for a while. That in itself was a badge of honour amongst tradesmen in the Castleisland area.
I covered the opening by President Mary McAleese of the restored Lartigue line and station house in Listowel in October 2005.
Joe worked as a supervisor on the FÁS project and was one of the select few to meet President McAleese once the formalities were over.
Once the dignitaries had gone indoors, Joe gave me a quick rundown on the work involved in shuttering the base and setting the bolts for the turn-table by the station house. It was a very proud day in the career of a fine tradesman. May God be good to him.
The announcement and funeral arrangements are as follows.

Sadly missed by his loving wife Mary, his son J.J., his daughter Doreen and her husband Diarmuid, his daughter Margaret (Caherdaniel) and her partner Vincent, brothers, sisters, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.
Reposing at Tangney’s Funeral Home, Castleisland on Tuesday evening from 5pm to 7pm followed by removal to Castleisland Parish Church. Requiem Mass on Wednesday at 11am. Burial afterwards in St. John’s Cemetery, Castleisland. May he rest in peace.
