There was a large attendance at Castleisland Golf Club on Sunday for captain John Manton, Marian O’ Connor and junior captain, Ronan Cross’ drive-in. The rain stopped for the duration of the nine-hole champagne scramble.
The golfers were delighted to get rid of the cobwebs and begin the new season. The course was surprisingly in good condition considering all the recent bad weather, golfers were all treated to soup and sandwiches and mulled wine after their enjoyable game.
Promoting the Club
Captain John Manton welcomed everyone and thanked them for their support. He also thanked Guirey Catering, Aidan and Mairead for all their promoting of the club and their kind hospitality.
The new captain encouraged members to invite friends or other club members to come and play the local course and view all of the new improvements. If they are members of societies they’re encouraged to book the course as such.
Castleisland Members’ Golf Club will host an inter golf society competition for the Sliabh Luachra Cup which will be sponsored by the Fitzgerald family of the Woodlands Hotel in Adare in memory of Dick Fitzgerald. The late Mr. Fitzgerald was born close to Castleisland Golf Club.
Friendly Members
The captain also welcomed the Mayor of Limerick, Liam Galvin from Abbeyfeale. Mayor Galvin said he was delighted to be invited to the club and to meet its friendly members.
He praised the facility as a fine asset to the community of North Kerry and West Limerick and he encouraged the members to support the club in recruiting new members.
There was a great buzz in the bar afterwards with music by members: Con Murphy, Domhnall De Barra and Eamon Feeley and everyone went home happy.
The competition on the day yielded the following results:
Winners with 52 points: Ronan Cross, 5; Mark Condon, 13; Andrew Fitzpatrick, 14; Second place with 51 points: Jonathon Kelliher, 9; Raymond O’Reilly, 22; Eamon Feeley, 16 and Jerome McCarthy, 19.
