Transition Year students from Castleisland Community College recently held a bake sale to raise awareness and funds for Breast Cancer Ireland.
“The students chose Breast Cancer Ireland as their Young Social Innovators’ project. The project encourages students to look at the world around them and to identify and explore issues affecting them and their community,” said teacher Elaine Murphy.
“From their research they found that breast cancer is the most common cancer in women and that one in 10 women will get this type of cancer at some stage of their lives.
The students wanted to run a campaign to help Breast Cancer Ireland as awareness and early detection saves lives.
“The event was a resounding success and surpassed expectations with over €150 raised to support ongoing research programmes.
“The students’ next challenge in their campaign is to produce jewellery based on the Breast Cancer pink ribbon and sell them in school. Special thanks to all who contributed to the Think Pink Cause,” said Ms Murphy.
