A recent road trip undertaken by An Riocht AC manager, Kate McSweeney and personal trainer, Tara Walmsley resulted in a few high-tech purchases for the gym.
“Tara and I took to the roads a few days going to different top class gyms around the country. On one of our trips we came across a brand new state of the art gym in Cork that had just installed these treadmills, once we set foot on them we fell in love straight away,” Kate explained.

“They are a fabulous treadmill to run on and, on top of that, have a range of incredible features to enhance the gym goers’ experience. A three- mile run that was once a monotonous counting down of the minutes can now be done while taking in the breathtaking landscape of Arizona, or browsing the streets of Munich.
“What we have found is that these courses engage exercisers beyond just watching television during a workout. The scenery distracts you from the pain of cardio exercise, but it also encourages you to work harder, to try and get to the top of that mountain faster. Rather than waiting for a clock to count down, you’re pushing forward to reach the end of a journey.
“By downloading the ‘LFConnect’ app onto your phone, users can login on the treadmill and record every aspect of their workout. It will be much easier for people track progress and keep motivated as you will see improvements as you get fitter.

“You can also re-run courses down on the road by recording the on the app. For example, if you use the app around the bog road it will save as a workout on your phone, you can match this exact run on the treadmill while constantly comparing your pace to that of your last run,” said Kate.
A Watt Bike was also part of the newly purchased gear for the gym

“This is an indoor bike which replicates the feel of the road whilst providing cycling-specific performance data. It will make structured training easy and help every rider achieve their goals.
The Wattbike is the bike of choice for the world’s top cycling federations including the UCI World Cycling Centre, Australia, the United States and France in addition to professional teams and elite athletes in all cycling and triathlon disciplines.
‘If you would like to try out all this new equipment we are offering Free Consultations with our personal trainers over the next couple of weeks! Book in now by calling 066 71 42199 or visiting us at An Ríocht,” she concluded.
