Desmonds Travel to Brosna for Sunday Game

Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club PRO, Gerdie Murphy.

This weekend Desmonds seniors play Brosna in the first round of the intermediate championship in Brosna on Sunday 17th at 2.30pm.We hope to see a large from Castleisland supporting the team in Brosna town.

Desmonds V Glenbeigh-Glencar
Castleisland Desmonds Hosted Glenbeigh-Glencar in Round 3 of the Co.League. This was a vital game for the home side going into this weekend’s Intermediate Championship game against Brosna.
The visitors opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the game with Tommy Griffin scoring a point from play.
Desmonds, through a well worked move, saw their midfielder Maurice O’Connell open the their account with a point from play in the sixth minute.
The next few minutes of play saw both teams exchange passages of scoreable opportunities with the visitors scores coming from centre half forward, Tommy Cahill.

Points form Play
Tomás Lynch added his name to the scoreboard with two points from play in the 12th and 17th minutes of the first half to see the home side go into the lead.
Pat Fitzgerald of Desmonds was now pulling the strings from midfield and he scored a lovely point from play.
This was followed with a great exchange of passing movements out from the backs and one, involving Kieran Brennan, resulted in Desmonds Pat Fitzgerald scoring a well taken goal. It now looked like the home side was going to go in a half time with a good lead.
Then came a mix up amongst the normally reliable Desmonds backs and it resulted in a well taken point from Fergal Griffin of Glenbeigh-Glencar.

Only Goal
With the game now approaching half time, a high ball kicked into the Desmonds goalmouth and with maybe a questionable foul, resulted in Gavan O’Grady scoring the visitors’ only goal in the game. The interval score stood at 1-04 to 1-03 in favour of Desmonds.
The second half started at a fast and furious pace. The visitors scored a point from the very reliable Tommy Cahill to level matters and it looked like it was going be a long and tight game for the home side. But then, Gearoid McCarthy scored two points for the home side and Desmonds were now back in control of this game.

Start-Stop Pace
Then for the next few minutes the game was played at a start stop pace with both sides conceding frees and this was not helped by the slippery under foot conditions.
Desmonds corner forward ,Tomás Lynch was brought down in the act of shooting for a goal in the square and Thomas Hickey scored from the spot with a well taken penalty.
Cian O’Connor, playing at wing forward, scored a point for the home side. Now, Desmonds Mike Brosnan was playing out of his skin and with Barry Lynch and Maurice Lynch also putting in great individual displays in defence, there was no be no way through for the visitors.
Scores from the two corner forwards, Thomas and Tomás added to the home side’s tally to see them win on the night by the score of 2-10 to 1-09
