A screen shot from the report by Seán Mac an tSithigh of the Dingle to Tralee march in commemoration of the historic 1916 event.

A reminder of the commemoration this evening at The Crown Hotel here in Castleisland, of the gathering of Irish Volunteers from the area who were at the ready to take part in the Easter Rising of 1916.
There will also be a plaque unveiling to the foundation of the Irish Volunteers – which took place in the house in April 1914.
A programme of events will unfold from 5pm this evening at ‘The Crown’ and this will include a short bus tour to Dysart and Kilbannivane.
In the meantime, take a look at the RTÉ News report by Seán Mac an tSithigh on a group of people from the Dingle area who marched over 40 miles overnight from West Kerry to Tralee in commemoration of 21 of their ancestors – who did likewise in 1916.
They did so in the hope of helping in the distribution of the famous 20,000 rifles which were to be landed at Banna Beach by the Roger Casement led arms shipment. This weekend their descendants were proud to retrace those steps on that journey of hope of 100 years ago. Click on the link here: https://www.facebook.com/rtenews
