On Monday night in Tralee, Desmond’s U-16 team Played Austin Stacks Park in the final of the Division 1 Central Region. In front of a large crowd of supporters from Castleisland, Austin Stacks played with a very strong wind to their backs in the opening half. With some fine scores, from play and frees, they went into a very early lead – and this was to take them all the way to half time.
However, credit the boys from the Island they never gave up and with good team work, Danny Hickey and Stephen Murphy scored two points each to go in at half-time trailing by 0-4 to 1-10
In the second half, Desmonds did their level best to reduce the difference between the teams and, with some good movement of the ball, captain Luka Brosnan and Stephen Murphy giving their all, they did just that.
With the Desmonds now going all out in attack there were gaps in the back-line and Austin Stacks took advantage of this as they pounced for a goal.
With the clock was running down we were to see Desmonds finish this game on a score of 1-10 to 2-14.
Credit must be given where it’s due and it was great achievement to reach the Division 1 final. The team mentors did a great job in getting them this far. Fair play to: Tom McCarthy, Micheal Walsh, Barry Lynch and James Lyons for getting them there.
