The final of the 2016 Greyhound Bar KO Cup between Castleisland AFC B and Killarney Celtic was held on the magnificent, all weather surface at KDL headquarters at Mounthawk Park last evening.

The kick-off was at 7-15pm and the duration of the game enjoyed the kind of sunshine we should have a right to expect on July 2nd.

Long Whistle

After the long whistle and signal from the referee the result remained tied at nil all.

There were close calls and near misses and both sides could rightly claim that the game was there for them had one of those close calls been a fraction closer.

There was an outstandingly sporting moment midway through the second half. Castleisland AFC attacker, Stephen McCarthy fell to the ground in obvious agony and began banging on the pitch and then holding his head.

Severe Cramp

With the action on the Castleisland goals side of the pitch, out of the corner of his eye, Killarney Celtic defender, Brian Spillane spotted the prostrate McCarthy and immediately ran to his aid.

Severe cramp was immediately identified and remedied by the sporting Killarney man.

Spillane had his opponent up and running in a matter of minutes and checked him out before getting back into the fray as the played swung back into the Celtic goal area.

While there is no definite date fixed for a replay, today week, July 10th is looking like a possible date. All will be revealed in time and we’ll keep you informed here.
