Coca Cola did a world-wide promotion in conjunction with Euro 2016 in which they gave consumers of their products an opportunity to win pairs of tickets to a game in the latter stages of the competition.

You simply had to pick up a bottle of Coca Cola and a leaflet at a shop near you and text your number to the given competition line – and wait.

Garvey’s SuperValu

Fifteen-year-old, Presentation Secondary School, Junior Cert student, Laura O’Connell from Scartaglin did just that at Garvey’s SuperValu a day or two before the Euro 2016 Championships kicked off.  And she waited.

Laura got the call a couple of days later and found herself one of the lucky ones and being invited to avail of the all expenses paid trip to France today.

Early this morning she and her mom, Mary headed to Marseille in the early hours of this morning after an overnight in Dublin – all thanks to Laura’s impulsive competition entry.

Category 1 Seats

They will take up their Category 1 Stand seats ahead of the 8pm kick-off time in the France V Germany Euro 2016 semi-final this evening at the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille.

While Laura would normally follow Ireland’s fortunes in competitions of this kind, her interest wanes with their frequent, early departures.

“I’m following every minute of the competition now and I’ll be cheering for Germany in France on Thursday evening though I think I’ll take my Irish top with me.

Delighted

“I have won a few things before but nothing major. I just saw the leaflet for this competition in Garvey’s one day and I thought I might as well enter. Of course – I was delighted to get the call from the promoters to tell me I had won.

“Though I thought it was a joke at first – the lady on the phone quickly assured me that this was for real,” said Laura.
