Monika Marchlewicz, Ireland Manager, Meningitis Research Foundation sent the following note in the hope of recruiting athletes and fun-runners for this year’s Killarney Women’s Mini Marathon on Saturday, October 8th at 11am.

“I am writing on behalf of Meningitis Research Foundation to ask if there are any ladies in Co. Kerry who have booked their places in this year’s Killarney Women’s Mini Marathon but have not decided on their beneficiary charity yet.

The foundation would be thrilled if they could run for our organisation.

With their help, we will be able to to fund our Community Meningitis Awareness Programme. Meningitis Research Foundation is the only meningitis charity dedicated to funding research, awareness and support for the last 20 years in Ireland.

We support families affected by meningitis and septicaemia via our freefone helpline and home visits. We also educate the general public and health professionals, providing disease awareness talks and information literature nationwide.

Meningitis and septicaemia – the blood poisoning form of the disease can affect anyone at any age affecting around 200 people every year in Ireland, with babies and young children most at risk. Sadly, one in ten may die and many others may be left with after effects as severe as brain damage, deafness and amputations.”

For further information, t shirts and sponsor forms, you can contact the foundation on 01 8196931 or email info@meningitis-ireland.org
