Castleisland Consultation on Draft Flood Management Plans on Friday

A public consultation day on the Draft Flood Management Plans for the Castleisland area will be held at the Castleisland Area Offices on this Friday, September 2nd. between 2-30pm and 7pm.

Two public consultation days on the Draft Flood Management Plans for settlements in the South West region will take place over the coming week.

The settlements include: Dingle; Killarney; Glenflesk; Castleisland and Tullig; Milltown and Kenmare.

Members of the public in flood-risk areas are being invited by the OPW to attend. The plans are being compiled under the Catchment-based Flood Risk Assessment & Management.

The consultations are open to the public from 2.30pm to 7pm. As well as the Castleisland consultation day, a similar event is being organised for the Plaza Hotel, Killarney on Monday, September 5th also between 2-30pm and 7pm.

Flooding has been a live topic in the Castleisland area over the past few years. There have been rumours that fields were to be bought and turned into flood holding lakes in an alleviation plan in the Kilbanivane and Tullig areas.

Friday’s consultation should be of huge interest to the people of the Castleisland area as many have had close calls with flood water lapping at their front doors on recent occasions.
