Handed Down Series Launch on Culture Night in Scart

A busy as usual Handed Down Series of concerts and lectures will be launched at the Scartaglin Heritage Centre in conjunction with Culture Night 2016 on Friday, September 16th at 7-30pm.

The launch will be accompanied by a free concert featuring the buttons and bows of Jackie Daly, Matt Cranitch and guests.

The line-up for the autumn / winter / spring series to be launched is as follows:

Saturday, October 22nd. Jerry McCarthy, The Gortglass Rambler  will be presented by Paudie O’Connor.

Saturday, November 19th. The Blind Fiddler – Tom Billy Murphy  presented by Eoin Stan O’Sullivan.

Saturday, December 10th. Learning from the Master, Nicholas McAuliffe presented by Máire O’Keeffe.

Saturday, January 28th. The topic will be Dan O’Connells of Knocknagree to be presented by Matt Cranitch.

Saturday, February 18th. Searching for Pàdraig -The making of a radio documentary about the Sliabh Luachra Fiddle Master Pàdraig O’Keeffe to be presented by Peter Browne, RTÉ.

Saturday, March 25th. The Changing Styles Of Paddy Cronin will be presented by Liam O’Connor.

Saturday, April 22nd. Jimmy Doyle from Sliabh Luachra will be presented by Bryan O’Leary.

Saturday, May 20th. World Fiddle Day Scartaglin including International Fiddle Concert 2017.

As a taster I found an IPhone recorded session from Sheila Prendiville’s Bar and Grocery, 22 Main Street, Castleisland, Co. Kerry on 29-4-2014. Con Moynihan on fiddle; Mick Culloty on accordion and PJ Teahan on mandola. They are playing a couple of pure Sliabh Luachra slides: The Star above The Garter and The Lisheen Slide.
