As part of his post budget speech, Deputy Danny Healy Rae highlighted areas where the government has promised an extra €500 million to be allocated to the Department of Health.
In the course of his speech he emphasised that he did not want to see this money to be consumed by the HSE.
Extra Home Help Hours
“I asked that more money be given to provide extra home help hours to assist elderly people who want to remain in their homes for as long as possible.
“I sought that money be allocated to open the closed ward in Kerry University Hospital to curb the trolley crises.”
“I looked for the new mental health facility in St. Margaret’s Road Deer Lodge, Killarney to be opened and staffed and that the closed wards in Kenmare and Dingle Community Hospitals be opened.

Macroom Bypass Plans Bypassed
“I also highlighted my disappointment that the Macroom Bypass Programme has been ‘bypassed’ again as it is vital that we get this programme under way to attract investment into Kerry and for all those travelling from Kerry to Cork for employment and for access to primary health care.
“I am also very disappointed that no funding has been provided for ‘Local Improvement’ schemes,” said Deputy Healy Rae during his post budget speech in Dáil Éireann
