Castleisland Day Care Centre has embarked in a novel venture which involves clients of the centre engaging in dance lessons with students from local schools.

The project is funded through the Kerry County Council Community Fund. So far, the intergenerational dance classes have proven to be great fun.

On Monday, students from Bright Beginnings Pre-School visited and learned some steps from the day care centre clients.

The visitors turned the tables on their elders and put them through some paces of their own.

The class proved to be as much a physical activity session as it was about dance. It was followed by a singsong which was enjoyed by all.

On Wednesday, secondary students from St.Joseph’s and St. Patrick’s attended the centre.

Both the young and elderly are benefiting from the involvement and physical activity at the heart of the venture.

It is hoped that the whole-hearted interaction between the generations will improve social, mental and physical well being all around.
