It was an occasion for treble celebrations at Tralee Credit Union offices at the weekend as they marked International Credit Union Day while reaching a significant milestone of €200 Million in assets. They also reached record lending levels this year.

This landmark in its development confirms Tralee Credit Union’s position as one of the largest community based credit unions in the country.

Loyalty and Support

“Assets worth €200 Million is a significant achievement for Tralee Credit Union. It’s all down to members’ loyalty and support, it underlines the trust our members have in their credit union to manage their affairs with confidence and provides security into the future,” said CEO, Fintan Ryan.

“€200 Million is a far cry from our humble beginnings of £50 when we opened in 1968. Today we have 42,000 members with branch offices in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin and we employ over 50 staff within the community.

“It’s been a very good year for Tralee Credit Union so it’s actually treble celebrations. We have just completed our year end last month and this year over 9,000 members borrowed over €34 million from Tralee Credit Union representing our largest amount ever lent out in a financial year.

Consumer Confidence

“€34 million reflects the increase in consumer confidence. This is an increase in people borrowing with Tralee Credit Union and the increase in what we contribute to the local economy as most of the €34 million we lent is spent locally and helping to sustain growth and employment.

“For anyone who needs a loan, talk to us in Tralee Credit Union, we have money to lend and we are lending,” Mr. Ryan stressed.

People out and about in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin were invited to their local credit union office for a cuppa, cake and prizes to celebrate these important milestones in its business history.

The offices are also accepting donations to the Syria Account Appeal with MSF Ireland. For more details call in to your nearest office or visit their website at: www.traleecu.ie
