There was a fair old whiff of the new America in the laying out of ambitions of incoming captain of Castleisland Members Golf Club, Jonathan Kelliher last week.

Amongst the plans attributed to him after Wednesday night’s AGM is the standout: ‘Make Castleisland Members Golf Club Great Again.’ Trump that.

The club had a very busy week at committee level. On Wednesday night the members held their annual general meeting in the River Island Hotel with a large gathering.

The AGM heard that the club is in a healthy state and was looking forward to a new year. Great praise went to the greens committee, staff and Guirey Catering for their high standards during the year.

On Sunday afternoon the men’s club held its AGM in the clubhouse with a good attendance.

Outgoing captain, John Manton thanked all members for their presence and he presided over the club’s reports.

Mr. Manton thanked all committees and sponsors who supported the club during the year and welcomed Jonathan Kelliher as captain for 2017.

Mr. Kelliher praised his predecessor as a great ambassador for the club and, with the backing of his new committee, his ambition is to go and make ‘Castleisland Members Golf Club Great Again and feared in Munster Golf.’
