Templenoe Take Cordal Seniors in First Game of 2017

Cordal V Templenoe – East Kerry League Division 2 Round 1

Cordal seniors were back in action against Templenoe on Sunday for their first match of 2017. Templenoe clenched the win in the first round of the Division 2 East Kerry League.

Cordal staged a strong comeback and in the final minutes of the match left both sides almost level.

Templenoe played with the wind in the first half. This gave them a good start with two early points from Pat Spillane Junior.

Philip O’Connor had a strong half for Cordal getting the white flag raised twice. Sean Walsh made his mark with his first score as a senior player in the 21st minute.

A Good First Half

Templenoe had a good first half with a strong showing from Denis O’Neil and Stephen O’Sullivan. They held a four point lead over Cordal with 1-07 to Cordal’s 0-06.

The second half began with a strong offensive from Templenoe. They managed to kick four points in the third quarter. Cordal led the comeback in the final quarter.

A point by T.J O’Connor in the 26th minute followed by a goal from Brian Reidy a minute later left only a goal between the two sides.

Last Minute Point

Cordal played hard to level the game but Templenoe held their lead. A last minute point from Templenoe’s John Moriarty finished the game.

The referee Donal Casey of Scart GAA Club blew the whistle with a final score of 1-13 to Templenoe and 1-09 to Cordal.

Cordal senior’s new management team of Andy O’Leary and Kevin Walsh praised the Cordal team on a strong performance marking the start of the season. In particular they praised the minor players, many of whom were playing their first game at senior level. Cordal seniors will play Firies at 2pm this Sunday in Farranfore.

February Lotto at Fagin’s

The annual ticket is just €50. This is the equivalent to less than a euro a week for the year. The annual Lotto ticket can still be purchased and this year. The ticket runs until the November Lotto. Membership Due Now
Cordal GAA Club Membership is due for 2017. Regular adult membership is €30; Senior Player membership is €50; Student player membership is €35.

Fixtures
Minors: Cordal/Scart Minor’s play Minor County League Division 2 Rd 1 against Killarney Legion on Sat 18th Feb at 4pm in Legion GAA grounds.

Cordal Seniors V Firies: Cordal will play Firies at 2pm this Sunday in Farranfore.
