A Good Week for Desmonds Teams

Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club senior men’s team travelled to play their first competitive game of 2017 when they played Listowel Emmets in Round 1 of the North Kerry League.

The visitors came home with the points on the score of 3-11 to 1-14.  This was overall a very good team display on the day and all 18 players who travelled got game time.

Scorers for Desmonds were: Graham O’Connor 1-5; Maurice Hickey 1-2; Gearoid Leonard 1-0; Brian Leonard, Micheal Walsh, Tadgh O’Connell, Maurice O’Connell, 0-1 each.

Well done to all the players, management and backroom team.

The next game is on this Saturday, February 25th at home to Finuge at 2.45pm in Round 2 of the North Kerry League.

Minors Outplay Keel/Listry

Our minors also played their first game of the season when they travelled to play Keel/Listry in the minor county league. They won this game on the score of 5-7 to 0-11.

Team was: Paric O’Connor, Kevin Mahony, Luka Brosnan, Ryan McGuire, Ethan Reidy, Padraig O’Connell, Paul Walsh, David Shanahan, Adam O’Donoghue, Danny Hickey, Patrick Horan, Kevin Keane, Ben Cooney, Steve Murphy, Tommy Regan, Mickey Broderick, Conor O’Sullivan, Adam O’Donoghue. Best wishes to the minor management team for this season . The team: Tommy Dom O’Connor, John Brennan, Tommy Horan, Niall O’Connor, Neilus Lyons and Tom McCarthy.

U-16 Boys Victory Over Ballymac

Desmonds U-16 Boys’ team had a great victory over Ballymacelligott in Round 2 of the Castleisland District League.

Like last week, Desmonds were slow to start but once they got it together they showed their ability by putting together some great moves with Colm Roche’s well taken goal from 25yards.

This was a great team display with all 16 players putting in impressive performances. Best on the day were: Greg Curran, Sean Fitzgerald, Jack Brosnan-Reidy, Jamie Heffernan and David Dillon.

Thanks to all the supporters and players who turned up on a bad Sunday morning. There is no game this weekend but training as usual.

Jackpot Intact After Fagin’s Night

The club lotto was held on Saturday night in Harnett’s Bar. The numbers drawn were: 2,11,23,32. There was no jackpot winner of the €2,600 up for grabs. Lucky Dip prizes of €30 went to Helen Healy Kilcummin with €20 each to: Shane Walsh, Knockanalig Tullig; Mary McSweeney Killcummin; Richie Kelly, Killarney and Sinead O’Connor, Tullig, Castleisland.

The club wishes to thank all those who bought and supported the draw and those who sold tickets and organised the draw.

Congrats to: Lorraine, Eilís and Andrea

Congratulations to the Desmond’s senior ladies players, Lorraine Scanlon, Eilish Lynch and Andrea Murphy who were all involved with the Kerry senior ladies winning team that defeated Donegal by 2-13 to 2-12 in Rathmore on Sunday in Round 3 of the Ladies National League.

Scór na bPaistí in The Mall at 6pm on Sunday

The Scór na bPaisti, Castleisland District Finals take place on this Sunday in Knocknagoshel at 6pm.

The following will represent Castleisland Desmonds GAA Club on the night: Shaoirse Reidy from Curranes N.S.; Amy McCarthy, Muire Gan Smal N.S.; Hanna Herlihy and friends on the ballad group from Gael Scoil Aogain S.N.

Congratulations to Glenbeigh-Glencar

Congratulations to Glenbeigh-Glencar GAA Club on their Junior All Ireland success in Croke Park last Sunday.

Desmond’s host them here in Castleisland on March 26th in Round 2 of the Kerry Co.League Division 1.
