Noonan’s Christmas Lights

A massive €26,700 was raised by Tony Noonan’s 2016 Charity Christmas Lights in Templeglantine.

Tony and his family would like to thank all those who donated and supported them and voted for them during the Energia competition for the best Christmas Display.

They received €4,000 to add to the pot making this their best year yet raising money for local charities.

Noonan’s Christmas Lighting Spectacular in gaining in popularity with each passing year for the past decade or so.

After his first year’s effort, Mr. Noonan handed over a total of €9,000 with cheques of €3,000 each going to:  Adare Alzheimers Centre; Milford Hospice and the Brothers of Charity Services in Newcastle West.

This year marks the 100 anniversary of the apparitions of Our Lady in Fatima.

On 11 January this year, Pope Francis blessed six statues of Our Lady of Fatima to be brought to each continent, to appeal for prayer and reparation for world peace and to promote the sanctity of family life in our world.

One of the statues blessed on that day will be brought to Abbeyfeale Church on Friday, March 24.  Mass will be celebrated at 7pm, there will be an opportunity for people to come and pray before the Centennial Statue prior to the mass and for a short while afterwards.

St. Patrick’s Day Parade

Comhaltas Teampall An Ghleanntáin will perform in The Square before the parade which is set to leave from Mountmahon at 4pm, led by the Rathkeale Brass Band. The parade will proceed down Main Street and past the reviewing stand before disbanding by the council car park. Prizes will be awarded for Best Float, Best Youth Entry and Best Decorated Window. Participants are reminded that they are responsible for the insurance of their individual vehicles and will be asked to sign a waiver to this effect before being permitted to take part in the parade. Most insurance companies will add this to their cover, free of charge, when requested. 

Dance On St. Patrick’s Night

A dance with music by the Premier Blue Boys and special guests will be held in the Railway Bar on St. Patrick’s Night. It is a fundraiser for the new bus purchased by the The Friends of St Ita’s Hospital, Newcastlewest .  A great night is promised, music starts at 10pm doors open at 9pm. Finger food and light refreshments will be served and a raffle will take place.

Glórach Theatre

An evening of musical delights featuring city and county acts including Philip Enright, The Lost Souls, Bella Ciao and The Mysterious Mr. Valentine will take place at the Glórach Theatre on Friday March 31.  It promises to be a night not to be missed so make sure to keep that date free in your diary.

Remembering Zoe

Remembering Zoe will provide a St. Patrick’s Day Surprise for local children as work on a zip line and autism play area has finished in the Town Park. Now, all the children who use the park daily need is sunshine.

Dog Warden Visits Abbeyfeale

Limerick City and County Council wishes to announce that its Dog Wardens are commencing a programme of inspections of dog licences throughout Athea, Abbeyfeale and Carrigkerry over the coming weeks. Dog owners will be required, on request, to produce a dog licence for their dog.

Under the Control of Dogs Act 1986 it is unlawful for a person to keep a dog without a dog licence.  Please note that persons found in ownership of a dog for which they do not have a licence may be liable for a fine of €100.00.A dog licence costs €20.00 and can be purchased at Limerick City and County Council offices at Merchants Quay, Limerick, at Dooradoyle, Limerick, at any Limerick City and County Council Area Office, at any Post Office or online at http://doglicence.limerick.ie/

Meenkilly Card Game

Joint winners on Tuesday night were Sean O Connor, Paddy Sheehan, Gobnait Scannell and Mossie Collins, Michael O Kelly, Maurice Collins. Table Prize:  Marian Roche, Beth Collins, Dan Joe Casey. Door Prize:  Seamus Collins, Joan O Grady. Raffle Tickets:  Maurice Collins, Liam O Connor, Breda O Connell, Mossie Collins, Eileen Reidy, Jerh Roche.

The card game continues every Tuesday night commencing at 9.15pm sharp.  On Tuesday, March 21st. the card game will be held in aid of the Men’s Shed, Abbeyfeale.  Loads of spot prizes on the night. See you there!

Fundraisers For Community Council

Bank of Ireland as part of their sponsorship of the Abbeyfeale Expo has offered to match the first €1,000 raised by the ACC so your support for the following fundraisers would be much appreciated.

Good Friday Clean Up

Following on from the roaring successes of the Team Limerick Clean-Up and TLC 2, we are delighted to announce that the clean-up, will take place again this year on Good Friday, April 14.

West Limerick Toastmasters

Toastmasters will continue on the first and third Wednesday every month until May 2017. Next meeting Wednesday, March 15 at the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West from 8-10pm.

This will have a special St. Patrick’s Day flavour about it from the topics to the green sponge cake with the cup of green tea.

Free Parents Workshop On Internet Safety

West Limerick Resources, in conjunction with the ISPCC, is running a free evening workshop on Children’s Internet Safety for parents, guardians and all other interested individuals, living throughout West Limerick. The workshop will take place in the Family and Community Hub in Newcastle West on Monday, March 20 from 7pm – 9pm. Abbeyfeale Parent & Toddler Group

Abbeyfeale Parent and Toddler Group meet every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 11am to 12:30pm in St. Ita’s Hall, Abbeyfeale. It’s a great opportunity to meet other parents for a cup of tea and a chat, where children play in a safe environment.
