The death has occurred of Tralee Road, Castleisland native,  Fr. John Lucid, (68) Kilcummin, Killarney and Meanus, Castleisland, Co. Kerry.

Suddenly, on Easter Sunday, April 16th. 2017.

Sadly missed by his loving brothers: Richard in Ashbourne and Billy in Castleisland; his sister-in-law Joan; nephews and nieces; relatives and many friends along with Bishop Ray Browne, fellow priests of the Diocese and parishioners of Kilcummin and the other parishes in which he previously ministered.

May He Rest In Peace.

Under his stewardship the parish of Moyvane celebrated its golden jubilee in 2006 when he united all sporting and cultural bodies in the area and held a joint celebration in the Church of the Assumption.

There was also a period of deep sadness in the village community which coincided with Fr. Lucid’s tenure as parish priest there.

He officiated at the funeral mass of double murder victims, the late Mike Hanrahan and his son Denis who were found at their home at The Hill outside the village at the end of March 2008. Indeed it was Fr. Lucid who was called to the scene after the discovery of the bodies of 60 year old Mike and 27 year old Denis.

Funeral Arrangements

Fr John R.I.P. will repose in the Kilcummin Parish Centre – adjoining the parish church – on Wednesday evening from 5.30pm to 7.30pm. Followed by removal to the adjoining Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Requiem Mass on Thursday at 11am. Burial afterwards in the church grounds. May God be good to him.

When Fr. John Lucid was leaving Moyvane in July 2015 his parishioners made a fuss of him in the local Marian Hall and someone made a film of it and it’s on Youtube. You can see it with a click on the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62jOoYZEzRA
