Castleisland Race Committee has launched details of the 158th running of the meeting. The one-day event will be held on the Powell’s Road lands of Maurice Brosnan on Sunday, June 4th from 12:30pm.

There will be a card of 10 top class flat races with leading horses from Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales taking part.

A total prize-fund of €5,000 has been secured for the event. There will be live music on the course on the day with Timmy O Connor and all the entertainment associated with the annual meeting.

Day of Family Fun

There will also be face painting, bouncing castles and fun for all the family.

All vintage cars and tractors and other such items are invited to take part in the race day activity.

“Our main sponsors are the London based ROL Construction and Maurice Brosnan of Gortatlea Mart who kindly lets us use his land every year for the races,” said committee P.R.O., Pat Hartnett.

Circuit Clearly Visible

“It is readily accepted that the race track on Powell’s Road provides one of the finest spectacles in the racing circuit. The half mile circuit is clearly visible from all points on the course,” said Mr. Hartnett.

All the proceeds from the races go to local charities including: Castleisland AFC; Glebe Lodge Residental Care Centre; Castleisland and District Social Club; Gael Scoil Aogain; St. Joseph’s and St Ita’s National School and other local charities.

This year the races are part of the Castleisland Summer Fest which will kick off on Friday, June 2nd with the Humphrey Murphy Memorial 5k and 10k Road Race and Fun Run.

Strictly Come Dancing

Saturday night it’s Strictly Come Dancing in the community centre with Desmond Ladies GAA Club and and Scoil Mhuire Gan Smál as beneficiaries.

On Sunday night after the afore mentioned races there will be an open-air gig-rig session on Main Street from 9pm to 11pm with SFA

On the following weekend, on Friday, June 9th. there will be a 40k cycle. Finally, on Sunday, June 11th.

Check Out Drive In Bingo

Drive in Bingo is checking back in by the ubiquitous popular demand.

This will be held in the hugely accommodating and previously tried Castleisland Co-Op Mart Yard and weather is only a minor consideration in the world of Drive-In Bingo as ‘runners’ duck and dive between the parked up cars with prize-money. Check it out.

Along with the generous sponsors of the events listed, the committee is also supported by Kerry County Council and Castleisland Chamber Alliance.
