World Fiddle Day Scartaglin Provisional Programme

There may be bits of tidying up here and hardening there, but the programme for the rapidly approaching World Fiddle Day, Scartaglin is as good as settled.

The following is a provisional rundown:

Friday Night, May 19th.

Informal gathering sessions in Castleisland and Scartaglin at 9:30pm

Saturday, May 20th.

At Lyons’ Bar at 12noon the opening of the of the Seamus Creagh photo exhibition by Marie Annick Desplanques will be performed by Matt Cranitch

Followed by a session with: Matt Cranitch, Geraldine O’Callaghan, Gerry Harrington, Andrea Palandri, Paddy Tutty, Darragh Curtin, Aidan Coffey, Mick Culloty and Paul de Grae.

1.30pm. O’Connor’s Bar tghere will be a visiting fiddlers welcome session driven by:

Tomas MacUilleagóid, Kevin Finucane, John Daly, Sean Abeyta, Mike Rice, Benny McCarthy, Carmel O’Leary and Denis O’Connor.

At 1.30pm in Fleming’s Bar there will be ‘The Next Generation Session’ with: Maura O’Connor, Connor Daly, Niamh McSweeney, Leah Murphy, Anna Buckley and friends.

Scartaglin Bound: Kerry poets, Breda Joy, Killarney; John W. Sexton, Kenmare and Eileen Sheehan, Scartaglin and Killarney in Cork City Library on April 19th at the launch of the anthology 'The Deep Heart's Core' in which their work is featured. 2pm. Exhibition and Literary Afternoon

An exhibition and literary afternoon at the Scartaglin Heritage Centre will be launched by Nicky McAuliffe.

2.10pm. Performance by Eoin Stan O’Sullivan School of Music of tunes and songs from North Cork.

2.40pm. As Gaeilge presentation of the origins of the song An Spailpín Fánach and other local tales le Éamonn Ó Braoin.

3pm. A Crow’s Jagged Flight : Three local and contemporary poets: Eileen Sheehan, John W. Sexton and Breda Joy explore how Sliabh Luachra has impacted on their works.

Photos and Tunes at The Monument

3.45pm. Official festival photograph and tune at the O’Keeffe monument with guests. Fiddlers and photographers welcome.

At 4pm. A Song Workshop by Christy Cronin

The song workshop will be hosted by one of Sliabh Luachra’s most respected exponents with guests and it’s open to all singers.

4pm Lyons’ Bar: The annual World Fiddle Day Recital

The Seamus Creagh and Jackie Daly LP 1977 hosted by Joe Thoma of Kenmare and joined by guest of honour, Jackie Daly who will be interviewed about Seamus Creagh and the recording, tunes and other aspects of their musical friendship. All fiddle players present in village at the time are invited.

5pm.Fleming’s Bar

The Sounds of Sliabh Luachra Session with: Bryan O Leary, Jimmy Doyle, Billy Clifford, Joe O’Sullivan, Ciarán O’Sullivan, Eibhlin De Paor and Michael O’Connor.

8pm. World Fiddle Day Concert

At 8pm The World Fiddle Day Concert in Scartaglin Heritage Centre hosted by Tomás MacUileagóid and featuring an all star line-up with guests: Connie O’Connell, Nicky McAullife, John Daly, Emma Ní Laoire and many more.

10pm. Open Sessions in all the pubs of the village.

Sunday May 20th in Castleisland
