The Late Fr. Pat Moore’s 60th Birthday Remembrance

In remembrance of their much loved Parish Priest, Duagh Pastoral Council would like to invite everyone to a mass of celebration and commemoration at 7.30pm on Saturday June 10th in St. Brigid’s Church, Duagh.

After Mass there will be light refreshments, music and song continuing Fr. Pat’s tradition of a warm welcome for everyone.

Abbeyfeale Horse And Pony Races

The annual Abbeyfeale races take place this year by kind permission on the lands of John and Anthony Relihan on Sunday, July 2nd.

We expect the usual high standard of racing with some of the best and future champions of racing taking part.

Continued Support

The hard working committee is busy preparing and we would like to thank all our sponsors for their continued help and support in making this one of the biggest meetings in the Southern region.  We are also running a Queen of the Races competition with the winner going on to represent us in the Rose of Tralee qualifying heats.

Well done to Nadine Smith who was our representative and did a great job this year, entry is free for this so anyone interested in entering please contact Donal McAuliffe or Martina Kelly in Duagh. There is also a colouring competition in association with all the local schools and on the day the winners will be on show in the marquee.   There will be a full bar and hot food available with a barn dance taking place after racing.  For any enquiries please contact a committee member.

Abbeyfeale For Africa Variety Concert

We are planning to hold a variety concert in the Glórach on Friday, June 16th as a fundraiser for Fr. Tim Galvin’s Mission in South Sudan. Artistes will include ; Comedian Katie Moloney, The Broderick Family, Shauna O’Donoghue and friends, Riona Curtin and The Cantors,  Nicole Doyle Prendeville and Trad friends and The Flynn sisters.  There’ll be music and singing and dancing and Katie will have everyone laughing and the MC might have a few jokes up her sleeve too.  Admission €10.

Great Southern Trail Marks Bicentenary

The first bicycle journey was undertaken by Karl Drais in Mannheim, Germany in June 1817. The Great Southern Trail wishes to mark the bicentenary this weekend on June 10/11.  We suggest that you get on your bike, alone or with family and friends, and cycle some section of the 40km Greenway between Rathkeale and the Kerry Border – 3km West of Abbeyfeale – at a time of your own convenience this coming Saturday or Sunday.  Please take a selfie or group photo along the way and email it to greatsoutherntrail@gmail.com with the location and date and we will put it up on the photo section of our websitewww.southerntrail.net

On Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11, volunteer collectors will be outside churches throughout County Limerick, including Abbeyfeale, to ask for your support to help maintain the services provided to women and their children where domestic abuse is their experience.  Your support would be much appreciated.  ADAPT offers 24 hour safe refuge in Limerick, 24 hour Freephone Helpline 1800 200 504, face to face 1-2-1 support in the community throughout Limerick city and county, support groups for women, play therapy for children, training in understanding and responding to domestic abuse for workers, healthy relationships for young people.  See www.adaptservices.ie for more information on the many other services or ADAPT Domestic Abuse Services on Facebook

Donkey Derby Fundraiser

Fr.Casey’s U-14 Feile Fundraiser Donkey Derby in Jack Ryan’s on Saturday, June 10 starting at 9pm. The U14 girls will represent Fr Casey’s and Limerick in the Féile competition this year in Cavan.

Afternoon Tea Dance

The Abbeyfeale Wednesday Club is holding a Tea Dance on Sunday, June 11th in Fr. Casey’s GAA Club, Abbeyfeale in aid of Recovery Haven Cancer Support house and Kerry Hospice Foundation.  Dancing 3 – 6 , Music is by Mike Condon and tickets cost €5 and available from  Mary on 087 6377310.

Good Governance Workshop

A free workshop for community groups on ‘Good Governance’ will take place at the Desmond Complex, Newcastle West, on Tuesday, June 13 from 7:30-9:30pm. Governance refers to how an organisation is run, directed and controlled. Good governance means an organisation will design and put in place policies and procedures that ensures the organisation runs effectively.  All Community, Voluntary and Charitable Organisations have a responsibility to provide and follow a code of good practice when it comes to how their organisations are run. This workshop is designed to practically help you achieve good governance within your organisation. Annual Summer Concert

The Annual Summer Concert takes place in Broadford Community Centre on this Friday, June 9th. at 8pm. Following a wine reception at 7:15 pm. As usual, the programme will include popular vocal favourites from the past, songs from the shows and a few well-known operatic arias as well as classical and popular instrumental pieces. Admission fee is €20.Tickets are available from Broadford Post Office, Moloney’s Quik Pick (063-84029) and Broadford Surgery (063-84004).

 Phil Coulter Comes To Moyvane

A fundraiser to help paint the church in Moyvane stars the writer of the Eurovision hit ‘Congratulations’ in concert in the church on Tuesday, June 13.  Tickets €30.  Further information from Fr. Kevin McNamara PP.

Little or no experience with computers? Looking to get IT savvy, get some skills under your belt? Then we have a great opportunity for you, we are offering a Digital Skills for Citizens course. We are currently taking names for a waiting list for this FREE 5-week run in conjunction with Mobile IT. Priority given to those in receipt of a social welfare payment or actively job seeking. Food Cloud Initiative

West Limerick Resources is delighted to announce that we are working to support the Food Cloud Initiative in the West Limerick Area. Food Cloud is a simple yet ingenious idea whereby working with local supermarkets for the aim of reducing food waste and restoring community spirit based on shared food. We would like to hear from Community Groups or Charities in the area who would be in a position to support this initiative, by receiving the food donations for their own work or indeed for further distribution within the community.
