We’re in Tidy Towns Adjudication Season

“On the Tidy Towns front, things are progressing well with the residents’ groups doing outstanding work on the roads and estates of the town,” said Castleisland Tidy Towns group spokesperson, Mary Walsh in an optimistic opening line.

“One big problem facing us this year is that of weeds. Spraying has been outlawed in order to preserve wildlife, especially the bees, and for the safety of the general public.

Health and Safety Regulators

“One needs to almost have a Phd now to be able to spray such are the conditions laid down by Health and Safety regulators.

“While the residents’ groups are keeping on top of the problem as best they can, the centre of the town is totally bereft of volunteers to tackle the weeds.

An Hour on Tuesday Nights

“To this end we are going to start going out as a general group again on Tuesday nights for an hour from 6.30pm to 7.30pm.

We will meet at The Fountain. We would love to see some new young faces along with the usual volunteers.

“As the Irish seanfhocail says ‘Ní neart go cur le Chéile’ – many hands make light work. We hope the fine weather continues long enough for us to make a start this Tuesday night,” said Mary.
