Cordal Seniors Extend Unbeated League Run to Seven

Cordal seniors began July with another Division 5 County League match.

For their seventh league game they found themselves in Austin Stack’s GAA Club grounds up against the Austin Stack’s B team. After a slow first half Cordal came into their own and did the double on their opponent’s score with 1-13 to Austin Stack’s 0-8.

Seventh Minute Point

The first half started with a point scored in the seventh minute by Austin Stack’s Padraig Gavin. Austin Stack’s had a strong first quarter over Cordal scoring four points in total to Cordal’s two which were kicked over by Philip O’Connor and Sean Walsh.

The second quarter went in Cordal’s favour. The Cordal boys scored four points in this quarter. Starting with Brian Reidy in the 18th minute, Philip Griffin, T.J O’Connor and Kieran Enright would all add points as well.

Austin Stack’s Dale Counihan scored their only point of the quarter which was kicked over the bar in the 20th minute. Half time put Cordal in the lead by a point at 0-06 to Austin Stack’s 0-05.

Gains Increase in Second Half

The second half saw Cordal’s gains increase. Philip O’Connor led the third quarter scoring three points apiece in the first, tenth and fourteenth minutes. Austin Stack’s kept up momentum also with a point from a free scored in the fifth minute by Padraig Gavin and another point in the ninth minute was added to their tally, scored by Barry Galvin.

Mike Flynn Jr. led an impressive run and extended Cordal’s lead considerably when he placed the ball in the Austin Stack’s net in the 24th minute.

Cordal dominated the final moments of the game adding four more critical points.

The last two points of the game were scored in the final minute by Jason Cronin and Philip Griffin. The referee blew the whistle leaving Cordal double their opponents score at 1-13 to Austin Stack’s 0-8.

Well done lads on another win. Cordal hasn’t lost a county league game this year so far. Let’s hope this success continues.

Lisa McHugh Concert / Dance on July 28th
