Listowel native and former Mayor of Listowel, Tom Barry was selected to replace Cllr. Diane Nolan at a convention of the Listowel Local Election Area in the Listowel Arms Hotel.
His was the only nomination received before the deadline closed on Friday.

He was selected to replace Cllr Diane Nolan who stepped down as a result of gaining employment outside the county.
Tom who lives in Feale Drive, Listowel is married to Trevanne and is the father of three children and he works at Kerry Ingredients in the town.
He previously served on Listowel Town Council from 2009 to 2014 and during that time served as Mayor. Tom is involved in many community organisations in the town and is a member of Clounmacon GAA Club.
Delighted and Honoured
Reacting to his selection, Mr. Barry said he is delighted and honoured to have been selected to fill the vacant Sinn Féin seat on Kerry County Council.
“I want to thank the membership of Sinn Féin in the Listowel area for their endorsement of me here tonight.
“I also want to wish the very best of luck to my colleague Diane Nolan who served the party so well on her time as both a town and county councillor.
A Big Loss Locally
“She is a big loss for us locally but I have no doubt that our loss is Kilkenny’s gain.
“I’m looking forward to working with my colleagues on Kerry County Council to make sure North Kerry gets the best representation possible and that our area will continue to be a great place to live and work in,” Cllr. Barry concluded.
