A Castleisland woman has made an incredible gesture to cancer patients across Kerry during Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

Caroline McCarthy put together specialised care packs for clients of two cancer charities – according to Marisa Reidy the recently appointed PR and Marketing Officer at the Tralee based Recovery Haven Kerry Cancer Support House.

Overwhelming Response

Caroline, a distributor of Forever Living natural, Aloe Vera personal care and beauty products, sought the support of the public to provide pamper packs for clients of Recovery Haven Kerry and Kerry Cancer Support and said she was overwhelmed by the response.

Having asked for a €20 donation to complete each pack, Caroline had hoped she might be able to provide 50 packs in total.

However, she was thrilled when the donations kept coming, eventually allowing her to supply 130 packs between the two charities.

Caroline carefully prepared the packs for men and women, as well as a small number of children who attend Recovery Haven Kerry, with items such as natural deodorant, tooth gels, lip balm, mints and socks.

A number of sponsors also left notes of support for those going through treatment, Caroline explained.

Last week she delivered 65 packs to each charity, where she spoke of her gratitude to those who willingly came on board to support her.

Incredible Reaction

“The reaction was incredible and I just want to say a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored a pack,” Caroline said.

“I had people who had been through cancer, people who had used the services and then others who just wanted to help. One woman sponsored five packs because she had used Recover Haven Kerry and wanted to do something in return. The reaction was amazing and I was thrilled to be able to do something positive for Breast Cancer Awareness month,” she said.
