Joe Delighted to Celebrate 50th with Family and Friends

Those born under the astrological symbol of Scorpio are said to be blessed with desire, resilience and willfulness.

Local taxi driver, Joe O’Callaghan – ‘Smokey’ to his friends – was born on the cut-off point of October 31st all of 50 years ago.

He shares the date with a whole raft of artists of many disciplines including: artist, Johannes Vermeer: U2 drummer Larry Mullen; US former news anchorman Dan Rather and Christopher Columbus.

Joe, of Camp, needed every ounce of the desire and resilience his sign allows him as he went through a really rough period of ill health last year.

A group of close to 40 family and friends gathered recently at The Shoemaker’s Inn for a party to mark Joe’s 50th.

Never one for parties, Joe thought this year is different and he’d go along with the idea of a party.

“I’m so glad to be around for it I was happy enough to go along with the idea of having the party and getting everyone together on the night. And sure, it turned out to be a great night after.

“Everyone who could come on the night were there and I got a few messages from friends who were working and couldn’t make it but promised to catch up soon,” said a grateful Joe.
