The Kerry Local Coordination Group met at 7am this morning to further review the severe weather situation.

A Status Orange weather warning is now in effect for Kerry until 6pm this evening. Light snow is still falling in some parts of the county and temperatures remain low.

Roads Remain Dangerous

Freezing temperatures and further snowfall overnight means many routes will remain dangerous for driving over the course of the morning. The current advice therefore is that non-essential travel should be avoided over the coming hours.

Hazardous and Treacherous Conditions

While national primary routes were treated from 5am this morning by council crews, there will be hazardous and treacherous conditions on some of those routes as well as on all regional and local roads until a thaw sets in.

Updates on Social Media

The Local Coordination Group advises members of the public to follow updates on local media, through the Kerry County Council website, on Twitter @countykerry and on Facebook.

An emergency contact line is available on 066 71 83 588.
