A notice that the Sliabh Luachra Music Trail project will shortly be inviting applications from traditional musicians for the position of Sliabh Luachra Musician in Residence.

12 Month Period

The residency, which will cover an initial twelve month period, is part of the Sliabh Luachra Music Trail project which is supported by the arts offices of Cork County Council, Kerry County Council and Limerick City and County Council in association with the Arts Council of Ireland.

Supporting Objectives

“The residency will be located in the Sliabh Luachra area and will operate in support of the a number of objectives,” according to Ian McDonagh

These objectives include:

To support performance, education and public awareness of the musical heritage of Sliabh Luachra.

To actively work with locally based musicians, festivals and cultural interest groups.

To help develop and support opportunities for young people to learn and participate in the musical heritage and practices of the region.

To help celebrate, preserve and promote Sliabh Luachra music and cultural heritage through a planned programme of activity

To support and mentor local festivals and events.

To identify new opportunities to grow public engagement and participation in the region’s music traditions.

And Mr. McDonagh is inviting suggestions from those involved in events within the Sliabh Luachra area. “If you have any ideas or views about how the residency might contribute to your organisation’s work or in your local area, these would be welcomed.”
