The Maine Valley Post – Focus on Funding

The Maine Valley Post: Putting the focus on funding the Patreon way.

As the fifth anniversary of its founding looms for The Maine Valley Post, advice given by friends and business savvy acquaintances is being acted upon from today.

Wheels on the Cart

The Maine Valley Post is a digital publication and, as such, there are lots of overheads that need to be met in order to keep the wheels on the cart: computer and camera equipment needs to be upgraded and maintained, there are monthly hosting costs for the site, to say nothing of the actual time and hard work that goes into producing multiple daily updates, six and often seven days a week.

The Patreon Principle

So, ‘The Post’ is embracing the Patreon principle:

For those of you unfamiliar with Patreon, it’s essentially a crowdfunding platform.

To put that into real world terms, it’s like taking out a subscription to a newspaper where you pay a small monthly fee.

Instead of being delivered through your letterbox, our publication arrives straight to your phone, tablet or computer.

Free Online News

The Maine Valley Post is a free, online, community newspaper based in Castleisland, Co. Kerry.

It covers the town itself and the villages that surround it. We cover everything from sport to politics, charity events to school news and births to deaths.

If it’s happening in the Maine Valley, then we try to ensure that it’s in The Maine Valley Post.

Expanding Horizons

The Maine Valley Post is, has and always will be a free resource for the locality. That will not change. This page is simply a way for us to expand our horizons and add more features to the site, allowing for a greater depth in our coverage.

Since its launch in 2013 ‘The Post’ and its way of doing things has been well received.

Home and Abroad

Email Facebook messages from home and abroad have been a source of great encouragement as have the businesses in the locality which advertise with us.

By becoming a patron you will help ‘The Post’ to continue on its present course and to add complimentary services as we go on.
