I thought the headline might mislead some but, for devilment, I left it sit.

For people who don’t play cards this isn’t about 31 card players in Cordal – and yet, it’s exactly what it’s about.

The people who play the game of 31 in Cordal, for the local resource centre, are taking a break for the summer. They’ve been at it trick and trump since early last October and their weekly, Wednesday night game will return early in the coming October – according to the PRO John O’Connell.

The following are the results of their final card game of the season:

1st: Tom Brennan and Jerry O Donoghue. 2nd.: Ned O’Callaghan and Joe Walsh.

Ladies: Dolly McAulliffe and Norrie O’Connor. Gents: Mike and John O’Connell.

Mixed: Kathleen and Tommy O’Connor. Spots: Noreen Reidy and Helen O’Callaghan, Connie Keane and Moss Horan, Marian Prendiville and Tess Brosnan.

“Cards are now finished in Cordal for the summer and will resume in the autumn, thanks to all who supported the centre since last October and we’re looking forward to seeing you again later this year,” said the PRO.

The Maine Valley Post has, is and always will be a free resource for the people of the locality and its wider diaspora.

When we started in 2013, the intention was to be a weekly, online newsletter. Over time, the site has evolved into a much different beast with multiple updates on a daily basis.
Because of its nature as a digital publication, it brings with it certain expenses: computers and cameras that require updating and maintenance; internet hosting and access; to say nothing of the time and hard work that goes into the site. It all adds up…
Our online community has always been our greatest asset and a vocal supporter of the Maine Valley Post since day one.
