The soon to be re-branded, Castleisland based Sinn Féin cumann will commemorate the tragic events of July 10th 1921 on the coming Saturday evening, July 14th at 8pm.
A simple wreath laying ceremony will be held in memory of the fallen Irish Volunteers: Jack Flynn, Jack Prendiville and Richard Shanahan.
Den Prendiville’s Account
Volunteer, Den Prendiville left a vivid account of the deadly battle which raged throughout the town on that fateful night.
The late Mr. Prendiville’s brother, Jack was one of those killed on the night.
Saturday evening’s event at the monument on Rice’s Height on the Cordal Road is being conducted in a lower key for this and the coming couple of years while plans are being made for a major commemoration to mark the centenary in 2021.
