The death has occurred of Denis Peter Tangney, (88) Tonbwee, Castleisland, Co. Kerry.

On July 28th 2018, peacefully, after a short illness at University Hospital Kerry.

Peter, retired ESB staff management, beloved husband of the late Eileen. Sadly missed by his loving sons: Denis and Jeremiah, granddaughters: Clodagh and Dervla, all extended family, relatives, neighbours and many friends.

May He Rest In Peace

Peter Tangney, from the top of the  Maam, was a passionate footballer who, in his playing days, was called The Flash.

Peter served his apprenticeship as an electrician in Abbeyfeale and he used to cycle back and forth. From this base he later rose to supervisor in the then ESB office in Castleisland.

For a couple of generations Peter was the ESB in the Castleisland area and the man to go to for anything associated with the supply of electricity.

His love of sports of greyhounds, cards and the bog is well known to his many friends throughout the locality.

More recently Peter was well known as a regular 31 player at the weekly Sunday night charity card games at the River Island Hotel and he’ll be missed by the friends he made there also.

Sadly, Peter lost his wife of almost 50 years, Eileen nee Kerins, 144 Main Street, Castleisland in January 2017. May God be good to them.
