Currow Student’s High Achievements in Maths and Science

Siobhán Brosnan is a transition year student at Presentation Castleisland who was selected as a high achiever in Maths and Science from her results in the 2018 Junior Certificate Examination.

Siobhán, from Currow, will now progress to participate in the National Olympiad competitions in Dublin City University.

There, six students will be selected to represent Ireland at the European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO) in Portugal in May next year.

Gold, Silver and Bronze

All participants at the Ireland EUSO finals will receive a certificate.The top three students are awarded gold medals, the next three silver and the next six will get bronze.

All medal winners will be invited to participate in Practical Training in February/March and after a further assessment, the top six students will be selected to represent Ireland at the EUSO 2019 which will be held from 4th – 11th May in Almada, Portugal.

World Championship

The International Mathematical Olympiad is the World Championship Mathematics Competition for secondary school students and is held annually in a different country.

The first was held in 1959 in Romania, with seven countries participating. It has gradually expanded to over 100 countries from five continents.
