Saints Take Down Cougars in Season Opener

St. Mary’s Division Two men took the spoils in a cracker of an opening game against Team Kerry Cougars.

It was home venue for the Castleisland boys who were coached by Pa Burke and Nelius Lyons.

The home side got off to a flying start taking the first quarter by seven points with a spread of scores.

The opponents came into their own in the second quarter, they defended well and made full use of all offences hitting 22 points to St. Mary’s seven leaving the score at 25 points to 33 at the half time interval.

Taking Back Control

The tables turned once again in the third quarter with St. Mary’s taking back control of the game, all players contributing, they outscored the Killarney side by 16 points to take an eight point lead going into the final quarter.

The final quarter was close and exciting and while Cougars came close and took the quarter by a point it was the home side who held out and won on a score-line of 62 to 55.
