The death has occurred of Miriam Joy Fitzgerald, Mullaghmarkey, Castleisland, Co. Kerry and late of The Grove, Abbeyfeale, Co. Limerick.
Our beautiful Miriam passed peacefully on December 3rd. 2018 surrounded by her loving husband and family in the tender care of Dr. Sheehan and her team at the Palliative Care Unit of University Hospital, Kerry.
Sadly missed by her adoring husband Pat and her precious sons Noah and Joshua, her heartbroken parents James and Bridget, brothers Eoin and Damien, sister Raechel, parents-in-law John and Karen, sisters-in-law Lorraine, Sarah, Aoileen and Úna.
For all her extended family, loving O’Donnell and Joy aunts and uncles, cousins, neighbours, work colleagues and a large circle of friends, a light has gone from their lives.
An Air of Deep Sadness
There’s a palpable air of deep sadness throughout the neighbouring towns of Abbeyfeale and Castleisland and further afield since the news of Miriam’s peaceful passing broke yesterday.
An unprecedented level of community support involving both sides of the Kerry / Limerick border got behind Miriam’s GoFundMe campaign last July so that she could avail of a new type of treatment in an effort to keep her illness at bay.
Both communities hoped, prayed and organised events for her cause.
Miriam (32) and Pat were surrounded by a large circle of family and friends and they set up the fund to help them fight Miriam’s cancer.
They had been told that the best treatment option for her was immunotheraphy and that it could only be accessed privately for the type of cancer she had.
That life isn’t fair has rarely been so starkly illustrated as in Miriam’s case as she leaves her loving husband Pat and their two little boys behind her.
There is no good time to depart this life in those circumstance – but at this time of year it is particularly poignant.
May the God who ordains these things be good to her now.
