Presentation Secondary School, Castleisland showcased ‘Annie – The Musical’ on two successive nights in St. John’s Hall recently.

By Katie O’Reilly

The show was the result of three months of practise and dedication by the students.

Ailish O’Connor, the school’s music teacher and choir master held auditions in September shortly after the summer holidays and from that our cast was formed.

Colourful Characters

Twenty five students were involved with the show in total, ranging from 1st, 2nd and 5th years, making up the colourful main characters, the orphans and the maid in Mr. Warbucks house.

We also had four students volunteering to take charge of back-stage.

Students were involved in all aspects of putting the show together, from organising props and costumes to the painting of the set.

Multiple Roles

Some of the main characters included; Hanna Herlihy as Annie; Siobhan Brosnan as Mrs. Hannigan; Kelly Anne Nix as Molly; Aine Sheehan as Mr. Warbucks; Jessica O’Leary as Grace; Elaine O’Donghue as Rooster and Kayla O’Connor as Lily St Regis, to name but a few.

Many students payed multiple roles in the production also

After School Rehearsals

Rehearsals for Annie occurred after school on Tuesdays from 4-6, with a few additional rehearsal sessions happening before opening night also.

Both nights of the production went fantastically, we really could not have hoped for better.

We had a packed hall every night and the cast members were outstanding, they really did themselves proud.

We would like to thank all of our sponsors, students and staff for helping out on both nights and for the many many people who came to see it.
