A clarion call to all Tidy Towns activists, prospective volunteers and supporters that Castleisland Tidy Towns Committee will hold an informal gathering in the River Island Hotel tonight, Thursday, March 21st at 7pm.

Showing Appreciation

“We want to show our appreciation for the hard work that everyone has put in to date and to offer encouragement for the coming year.

“We would especially welcome new volunteers and people from the different roads, streets and housing estates around the town,” said committee spokesperson, Mary Walsh.

Hedge Cutting

The recent hedge cutting and tree felling along The Nuns’ Walk hasn’t gone unnoticed by members of the public and I passed on the concerns expressed to me to Mary Walsh.

Mary explained that the work there is the first step in a programme of environmental enhancement for the area.

Encourage Wildlife

“There were some health and safety issues on the River Walk which needed to be addressed. That area is now being allowed to become a biodiversity area where we will be taking measures to encourage wildlife to flourish. These things don’t happen overnight,” she said.
