An Ríocht Athletic Club

The late Peter Rogers is held in high esteem in athletics circles in Castleisland and at An Ríocht Athletic Club in particular.

In paying tribute to him today, club chairman, Joe Walsh said that he was a fantastic and unique man.

Fundraiser Without Equal

“He was a fundraiser without equal for An Ríocht and he brought in over €100,000 in a period of ten years through the sales of club Lotto tickets,” Mr. Walsh said.

“Not only was he a fundraiser, he was also a great ambassador for the club as he told and retold the story of An Ríocht to anyone who cared to hear it.

Sold Tickets at a Wedding

“And apart from the fundraising at all he was genuinely interested in athletics and that was great for us as he did Trojan work at a time it needed to be done.

“There was no end to his enthusiasm. He even sold Lotto tickets at a wedding one time and he was a regular at the coursing in Clonmel and on the train to Dublin during Kerry football trips.

“We were very lucky to get him,” said Joe.

May God be good to him.
